why I choose custom press on nails - as a girl with sensory issues
theres no nail salon
the noise of the nail drill, the bright overhead light, the feeling of your nail tech holding your hand for an hour+, the nail salon environment can be an absolute nightmare if you have sensory issues and it’s the reason why I stopped getting my nails done.
but with custom press on nails everything I do is online, zero salon, zero in person experience, I can apply & remove my nails at home, in my safe space!
they're great for temporary wear
I can get overstimulated out of nowhere and my nails are actually one of the things that overstimulate me, so I need to be able to remove my nails easily, otherwise I’ll just pick them off and ruin my natural nails.
with press ons I can either apply them with sticky tabs and they come off super easily, or I like to use a press off removal serum with my usual glue and the nails come off in less than 5 minutes!
I can apply them whenever I want
sometimes the day just throws something at you and you're overstimulated, busy, and don't want to have go to your nail appointment there and then. now you have to choose between going to the nail salon already overstimulated or paying the cancellation fee for ditching your appointment last minute.
but with press on nails you can do what you want. if I'm not in the mood to apply my press on set I can just wait until I feel up for it instead!
they still feel like a salon manicure
the feeling of cheap false nails is awful to me. the ends are unfinished and rough, the cheap thin plastic bends and feels “wrong”. they just don’t have the same smooth feeling as a gel manicure
but custom press on nails do feel the same because they’re also made from gel products! it’s one of my favourite parts of custom press on nails, the luxury, salon manicure feel that I could sit and play with all day!
I can still choose my own design
I choose custom press on nails specifically because I still get to choose a fun nail design! day to day I choose a variation of the same simple black outfit because it works for me sensory wise, so I rely on my nails to be the pop of colour in my outfit and to be the way I express myself.
with custom press on nails I can choose my dream nail set and have it recreated just like I’d get to in a nail salon!
I believe that fun nails should be accessible to everyone!
it might seem like its ‘only nails’, but switching to custom press on nails has meant that I get to keep my fun dopamine nails while removing the stress, overwhelm and sensory issues that going to an in person nail appointment brought me
switching to press on nails is a more accessible option for many people with sensory issues and it really does make me feel honoured that I get to be a part of that as your virtual nail tech!
