The Tape Method: How to Size Yourself for Press On Nails at Home
Looking for a quick and easy way to measure yourself for press on nails at home? The tape method is a simple and pretty accurate way to do just that!
What You'll Need:
- Sellotape
- A ruler
- A sharpie (or other pen that won't smudge on tape)
- A piece of paper and pen (or you can use your phone)
How to Measure Your Nails:
- Begin by making sure your natural nails are completely clean and bare and free from enhancements like gel, nail polish etc
- Cut a piece of tape wider than your finger and place it over your natural nail, keeping it as flat and smooth as possible.
- Take a pen and mark two lines exactly where your natural nail sits. Try to mark these lines exactly where your natural nail meets your finger.
- Remove the tape and stick it to a flat surface, then use a ruler to measure the gap between the two lines you drew on the tape. This is how wide your nail bed is.
- On a piece of paper or your phone, make a note of your nail size. You'll need this size in mm so if you've measured in cm then times that number by 10 to get the mm measurement!
- Repeat these steps for every nail, making sure to measure both hands as often the size of your nail beds can be different on each finger and each hand!
Now you have your nail measurements for each finger on both hands! You can compare them with a sizing chart to see if you match any standard sizes, or you can enter your custom measurements at checkout for a completely custom fit set of press on nails!
Things To Consider:
While the tape method is fairly accurate for measuring the size of your nail beds, the most accurate way to measure yourself for press on nails will always be by purchasing a sizing kit as this effectively lets you try on the nails at home.
If you are comparing your measurements with a standard sizing chart please be aware that this may vary slightly from nail shape to shape.
The way that press on nails look on each person differs and will be affected by the shape of your natural nail beds and fit differently based on how curved your nail beds are. Please bare this in mind if you have very flat or very curved nail beds or if you are looking to purchase extra short nails. A sizing kit can help to test how the nails will look on you before you commit to ordering a full set.
